Dr. Kaushal Malhan,
Dr Malhan, a superspecialist in knee and hip surgery, established the regional resurfacing and joint replacement center for western India in 2003.
He has been in the forefront in the field of minimally invasive high bending knee replacement surgery. He has several firsts to his credit including the first oxford unicompartmental knee replacement and computer assisted minimally invasive gender specific knee replacements for female patients. He has also done the largest number of Birmingham resurfacings in the city and popularised it in India and abroad.
He has gained international recognition for his pioneering contribution in the field of joint replacement and resurfacing surgery. He is often invited to lecture and demonstrates surgery in various parts of the world and has done over 150 presentations and multiple publications. He is a strong proponent of tissue preserving minimally invasive surgical techniques for joint replacement and was recently invited to speak at a conference for tissue sparing surgery in Australia. The tissue preserving total knee replacement technique (TPTKR) advocated and practised by him allows three times quicker recovery than seen with conventional knee replacement. His TPTKR technique was recently highlighted in the media when it allowed a 94 yr old gentleman to walk independently only four hours after both knees were replaced in a single sitting. This method allows knee replacement surgery with faster recovery and knee bending with less pain and no need for blood transfusions. Since the quadriceps muscle is not violated in this specialized minimally invasive technique the need for post operative physiotherapy is also reduced. He has performed the TPTKR technique of knee replacement perfected by him in hundreds of patients who vouch for its success and is the leading force behind the Fortis minimally invasive joint replacement programme.
He has over 150 national and international presentations and 13 international publications to his credit. He has been invited as faculty for knee and hip courses in India and abroad including Indian arthroplasty association, Indian orthopaedic association, Bombay arthroplasty courses, Chennai association courses, Andhra pradesh ortho. association, Jalandhar ortho association, Jalgaon, Nasik, solapur, Malysian ortho association.
He has hosted multiple joint replacement symposia and is the convenor of the first Wockhardt Trauma course. He has been invited to demonstrate his surgical techniques live for the benefit of surgeons in India and abroad and has trained surgeons from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.
He is national trauma course faculty and post graduate teacher in orthopaedics. He was selected from amongst India's joint replacement and resurfacing surgeons to lecture on a tissue preserving surgery for an audience of North American doctors at a symposium organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII).
